Artist Statement

My creative process mirrors the way I engage with life: with stillness, attention, and introspection. From an early age, I found joy in crafting with discarded materials. Despite this passion, my life initially took a path removed from the arts. In adulthood I began studying sculpture, learning privately over the course of ten years. Through this journey, I came to understand how deeply I longed to live as my truest self.

I spend time in quiet observation. Thoughts and emotions surface in waves. Questions arise—about those closest to me, about myself, about other living beings, and about the natural world. The emotions born from these questions take form through my hands. Each piece I create is a trace of careful observation, shaped by a persistent and intimate exploration.

Profile

Sculptor Jeong Mallo explores the organic relationships formed between herself and other living beings. Her work is rooted in environmental and emotional inquiry—transforming inner reflections and observations into sculptural form.

In her sculptures, the color white embodies fragile boundaries: life and death; presence and absence; beauty and decline. Inspired by the bleaching of once vibrant, now ghostly coral reefs, this whiteness reflects tensions between humans and other life forms—and also the desire to continue living.

Jeong Mallo has exhibited in galleries and clubs in her native Korea as part of installation art team Unlocker, and as a member of art collective Majungmul, as well as in various group exhibitions. She is currently in Berlin.
